Chinese University Leaders to Gain Insights into Innovative Management at Prestigious Universities
In October 2012, a group of more than 20 presidents and vice presidents from some of China's most prestigious universities, including Peking University and Fudan University, embarked on a three-week professional training program in the United States. The program focused on a range of themes such as enhancing the innovation capacity of university disciplines, building effective leadership and cultivating and utilizing key talent, creating strong teacher teams, and developing medium and long-term strategic plans for universities. During their visit, the Chinese university leaders had the opportunity to engage in in-depth exchanges and studies with local principals and education experts from world-renowned universities such as Stanford University, the University of Washington, and the California Institute of Technology.
The program was organized and led by Prof. Wu Zhipan, Executive Vice President of Peking University, and the delegation included 25 leaders from universities such as China University of Petroleum, Beijing Language and Culture University, Beijing Jiaotong University, Northeastern University, Hunan University, and Nanjing University of Technology. The U.S.-China Exchange Association facilitated the program, and renowned education experts from Stanford University introduced advanced management concepts and practices to the visiting Chinese university representatives. The director of Stanford University's Asia-Pacific Center provided an in-depth analysis of innovation and reform concepts, as well as strategies for leading universities with innovative thinking. The Dean of Stanford University's School of Education, a member of the National Academy of Sciences, gave a comprehensive explanation of how to train and select disciplinary leaders, while the Dean of Stanford University's School of Engineering, a member of the National Academy of Engineering, introduced advanced practices for training and selecting world-class researchers.
The delegation also visited California Polytechnic University, the world's top technical university, renowned for its expertise in physics and earth sciences, and its impressive list of 33 alumni or professors who have won the Nobel Prize. During their visit, the Chinese university leaders engaged in cordial discussions with the vice presidents of Caltech, exchanging views on management experience and development plans. In addition, the delegation conducted in-depth studies and inspections at other renowned universities such as the University of Washington, Seattle University, and California State University. Through these visits, the Chinese university leaders gained a direct understanding of the management and innovation strategies adopted by top U.S. universities, which helped them develop new insights into the long-term development and strategic planning of their respective institutions.

本次培训班由北京大学常务副校长-吴志攀教授带队,成员为来自中国石油大学、北京语言大学、北京交通大学、东北大学、湖南大学、南京理工大学等高校的25位领导。在美国美中交流协会的组织和安排下,斯坦福大学的领导和著名教育专家向来自中国的校长代表们介绍了斯坦福大学先进的管理理念和做法。斯坦福大学亚太中心主任深入分析了创新与改革理念,以及如何用创新思维领导高校发展。斯坦福大学教育学院院长,美国科学院院士对于如何培养和选拔学科带头人进行了深入的阐述。斯坦福大学工程学院院长,美国国家工程院院士介绍了斯坦福大学培养和选拨世界一流的科研人员的先进做法。
加州理工大学是全球顶尖的理工大学,在物理学、地球科学等领域被公认为全美第一,拥有33位校友或教授获得过诺贝尔奖。加州理工大学的副校长与中国大学校长代表们亲切交流,畅谈了加州理工大学的管理经验和发展规划。此外,代表团还在华盛顿大学、西雅图大学、加州州立大学等名校进行了深入的学习和考察,对美国顶尖高校的管理与创新有了深入的、直接的认识,并对各自院校的长远发展和战略规划有了新的认知。
